@Linus Tech Tips those GPS coordinates are _not_ the LMG HQ. It's a street address off 58th ave. LMG is at 49.0985156,-122.7065713

Your phone battery will be depleted by the time you search. Also, 12hrs battery isnt enough time to deploy enough devices to cover a realistic area. Think about it, range of a duck is 400m, you can spot someone at 400m away

That's actually really cool. If the communication network is bidirectional, later adding the ability to have things like news be accessible from the system would also be useful in emergencies. A private network, with pretty much two systems accessible. The SOS system (as shown) and news, for what the heck is going on.

That's cool, AvL Technologies builds Satelittes for all walks of life from News, Emergency Services to Military. When i was a Firefighter we actually did a commercial with them showcasing their Emergency Response in a Disaster situation, type AvL Technologies in FRreporter's search bar to see the commercial. The amount of Tech that Emergency Services use to do our job better and faster, the Ducks are a good idea.

Cheers from Belize. I was a part of the only 100% volunteer rescue group a few years ago. I can say with confidence that even for disaster preparedness training and scenarios this would be perfect. With more tinkering, I can see this expand not only for notification in urban areas but for high angle rescue, cave rescue and possibly even the addition of voice relay (yes CB's already exist) very informative.

This is actually a rather amazing through process to create these. Its a funny name, but the idea makes so much sense, and could provide so many with much needed aid extremely quickly if a way of quick deployment was found/made.

But why? You can go to the local sporting goods store and pick up a Gramin in reach mini that fits in your pocket and works off of the satellite system and will give you both SOS and 2 way txt messaging from sat coverage. It costs about what a music streaming service costs. I never travel without mine. Id always have it when at home or any time at a hotel but I also have it with me on planes trans and some times, automobiles. Works any where in the world, no ducks or cell coverage necessary.

I'd prefer a manufacturer wide update to be pushed if a major emergency like a really bad earthquake or truly bad flooding where a state of emergency is enacted. All phones would broadcast location info. What if someone can't reach their phone or are knocked unconscious.
