WAIT, wait wait, hold the breaks!!! The voice acting is good?? I thought that was one of the worst aspects of the entire movie and especially Donald Glover is terrible as Simba, making him out to a complete whimp with a much less powerful singing voice than the young Simba.

I think it's more about out growing disney movies or any movie you've seen In your childhood. You won't get that same childhood feeling as you once did. And for that every remake of these will suck In comparison.

Terrible voice acting everything was flat. I didn't even see who was in the movie so the only thing that was a nice touch was a nostalgic chill once I heard Mufasa speak for the first time, after that it was down hill from there. Especially with it being a clone and the actor being 25 years older even HIS lines felt underwhelming. Knowing what was about to be said word for word it felt completely lifeless. Giving Timon a camp voice actor was horrendous, nothing against people's sexuality but I do have a problem with how they speak insinuating that is a feminine voice is an insult to women. Pumba showing that Seth Rogan might be a great guy to smoke with and he might be good in cheap comedies however he is too one dimensional. All I could do was compare what I remember from the original to this remake and other performances from Zazu (Mr Bean) to the other half of Fry (I think that was him, I don't care tbh) every performance from each counterpart in the remake was nauseating and irritating to listen to. This is not even subjective just simple hard facts. I wish it was some sort of bias feeling but other than a one time "oh shit, that's the original mufasa!" I couldn't give a monkeys uncle about defending the original. Now there is no doubt in my mind that Simba from the original was clearly one of the weakest links compared to the other "iconic" characters. So that could only mean that this one would have much better actors for this role. WRONG. the kid sounded like some snot nosed runt that I only ever used to hear in Call of duty games I honestly was glad to see Mufasa pass knowing that his performance was done (Simba's). The older one (Simba) was less annoying but will be even more forgettable than the original which I didn't think was possible. Don't get me started on the pop singer and the hyenas. Ugh what a mess.

I really, honestly don't understand *why the fuck* they are remaking the good original films!!!! WHY????? JUST WHY????? What's the point? Especially if they are just gonna make it exactly the same? I get it if they are remaking some original films to improve them and fix some problematic scenes for the new generation children, so I actually liked Aladin for that. But remake of Lion King was so pointless. If I have to show Lion King to my children in the future, I'd definitely show them the animated original version, not this new live action version.

The movie moved a bit too fast pace in the beginning & feels like they were trying to force a lot of moments. Some parts did feel emotionless, Be Prepared was very underwhelming. The best song of the lion king underwhelming. Rafegee was underwhelming. To me the fight scene was at was good & epic. The movie overall was ok

This movie lacked all the heart from the original. And that shitty "spirit" song from beyonce fucked up an emotional scene, that bitch pluged that trash song as a requirement to do the voice for Nala and still managed to butcher the character. Simba's voice by that other retard Glover sucked ass, it was like he had a carrot in his ass during his performance. Scar voice was terrible. In general all the voice acting was bad, Erl Jones sounds like he doesn't want to be there. Movie starts frame by frame and then near the end starts doing it's own thing with that, yet again, shitty song from beyonce. If you are going to do a movie frame by frame, then do it frame by frame.

The Jungle Book-You can do a remake of that cuz there have already been many Jungle Book movies. Cinderella-Yeah there have been many Cinderella films, you can go ahead and do that. Maleficient-Yeah sure, twist it up, have the villain be the protagonist, there's many things you can do with that. Aladdin-Okay sure, there are things you can do to twist it up to make it feel fresh and somewhat original. The Little Mermaid-Hasn't happened yet but it could be a good thing. The Lion King????? Really?????? A masterpiece that is already so PERFECT???!!! NOOO!!!!! Like Stuckmann said it should never have been done. It's unnecessary. If I were CEO of Disney, I'd put an end to the whole live-action remakes idea.

I wrote all of this while watching the movie. The animation looks great but I don’t like the motion and movement of the characters aka animals. I also thought that even though the voice acting is fine, the voices don’t match what I am seeing on screen. I mean the mouth of the animals line up with the voices but the emotion in the voices is not there. I even thought this way with James Earl Jones. I mentioned that the motion of the animals was not something I liked and it’s because I can see how computer perfect and unnatural it looks when all of the characters move. Another thing I’ve noticed is that when the characters or talking, it’s very difficult forcing myself to actively noticed the mouth movement. One of the reasons for that is because, I said this before, even though the movement of the mouth lines up with the voices it just doesn’t fit having those voices coming out of those characters that I am seeing on the seeing. I have an easier time watching the Ip Man trilogy with English dubbing than I did watching Lion King. That’s important because with English dubbing in the Ip Man trilogy, the voices don’t line up with the mouth ever. I was incredibly disappointed with James Earl Jones because he sounded bored and uninterested and the kid voicing Simba in the beginning, his voice never matched the emoting of any of his scenes that he was in. John Oliver is over acting all of his scenes way to much. I also want to add in that several of the Mufasa lines don’t even sound like James Earl Jones and that’s super distracting. The three biggest problems I had with this movie are the emotionless characters both voice and visual. The motion of the characters is weird, and also the musical score seemed to have low volume compared to the rest of the sounds in the movie. I mean I could barley even hear the score in this movie. As great as these character models look in the movie, I really wish they would have been more faithful to the original character designs and I wish they would have had more facial expression as well. I don’t care for the few VR headset shots. J.T.T. Had a voice and performance that matched simba much better than the kid is this movie. Timon and Pumba are not nearly as likable or charming as the original movie and there comedy timeline was not only off with the comedy but also off with each other as well and that made what should have been funny feel rushed and I’m oddly spaced. I can also tell when they added a lot of bass to James Earl Jones voice as well as Chiwetel Ejiofor’s voice. It’s just weird because my mind is immediately drawn to the fact that they did actually add incredibly noticeable amounts of base to both voices in some of the parts. Oh and Donald Glover has noticeable bass added to his voice in some of his lines. It’s weird how Beyoncé sounds closer to the original voice actor than James Earl Jones, and he literally is the original voice actor. Aesthetically, some of the camel movements in the movie are very unpleasant. I will say that there were very few moments that I actually laughed during the movie and I also want to mention that with Timon and Pumba, Seth Rogen was clearly better than Billy Eichner. Not giving Rafiki his stick which was a prominent part of his character in the original movie was a huge mistake took a lot of charm and charisma away from the character as a whole. It also took away from that moment when Simba gets smacked on the head with the stick and Rafiki says it doesn’t matter because it’s in the past. Because I know the original animated movies so well, it’s weird when I know what the line that a character is supposed to say should be but then they say something else. It’s also weird when they leave a little parts like when Simba gets mad and starts yelling up at the sky and says “You said you would always be there for me, but you’re not” but that part was not even in the movie which made Mufasa coming out of the clouds seem very abrupt. Some of the score was changed way to much and because of that it doesn’t fit as well as the original. Yo that flashback was completely unexpected. They really just had a line about fat charming and fat acceptance in here. Oh, so Rafiki did eventually get his staff. I feel tlike they where speeding through a lot of the scenes. I have noticed that as the movie went on, the motion of movement of the animals and characters did get better and less point to point or computerized. So that’s a positive about the movie. I’m not that big on the self-aware moments of the movie especially when tomorrow in Houma literally started to sing the beginning of the song be our guest from beauty and the beast. I really hated the way they retcon Rafiki getting his staff. I hate the fact that they never actually visualize Mufasa in the cloud but rather they only would have his voice only. I really don’t care for any of the new music that they added to the movie. I want to say that Seth Rogen gave a better performance in the movie sausage party. I want to say that Donald Glover gave a better performance in the movie Solo A Star Wars Story. I should not be saying that but I am. My brother and his wife took Keirstin a.k.a. my nephew to go see this movie in the theater and they said he was bored and uninterested. That’s also considering that he absolutely loves the original animated film. This movie was such a huge disappointment. There was one point where they show a hippopotamus coming out of the water and I hated the animation on the water in that moment. So that’s my thoughts on the movie. If you took the time to read this all the way through, thank you very much. These are literally all the thoughts I had while watching the movie because I literally wrote all this while watching the movie. Thank you.

Just finished this. It's like Planet Earth documentary was dubbed with the lion king. In first 10 minutes or so, I felt really weird. Like watching circus animals do unseen puppeteers bidding and tricks. Of course in all major I had goosebumps, but all because of the memory and nostalgia for the original. I just don't understand, what is the point in tediously recreating real animals, when you can just film the real deal and watch a documentary. Animation is such an amazing tool for creation of something new, original, something that doesn't exist. Completely pointless. 1.5 billion pointless.

I completely agree with the soulness. The lines were a bit rushed and no emphasis on the words and scenes that really mattered! Like rafiki when he found out that simba is alive or when he showed simba that mufasa was alive. Those scenes were better done in the original than this remake. All seemed automatic.

Another thing to point out is the singing. Sure, they showed how vocally talented they were, but there's something about songs that sound so much better when sang in the standard/simple tune. Beyonce and the others used vocal riffs(IKD what it's called) and it didn't really work well with the songs. They kinda lost the sincerity of what they were singing. I know these people were cast for their big names and their singing ability, but to me they didn't deliver. Even their voice acting was off. I think Chiwetel did best here. Not as good as Jeremy, but compared to the other voice actors, he did best. Spot on review as usual Chris!

This was just a technical showcase, nothing more. Even the singing is purely technical, there's no soul in that either. They're singing well, yes, but they're not singing in character, there's no drama, there's no story-telling in the singing. No Mufasa in the sky, epic fail. No Simba shouting at the stars, complaining that his father lied to him, epic fail. Be Our Guest song with Timon faking a French accent, epic fail. No emotions what-so-ever in any scene, is like hiring people off the street to star in a movie, instead of trained actors who can portray a variety of emotions and really sell what they're going through. Epic Fail Disney. On a side note, I seriously love Chris's T Shirt.

Straight trash Not as bad as Aladdin but the voice overs had no emotion!!! As if it was rushed,,,, but think again ... between the appropriation and the racial divide do to accusations (with having cheech as a voice and accent being example of racist somehow) of racism from the first line up,,, this was inevitable.... this emotionless bullshit voice over was enough to ruin everything although the director even stuck to script from the original... with a few added... Point being is we're so afraid of hurting feelings and being labeled "racist" for "appropriating" a culture,,, that there is no casting crew,,, instead it's just automatic that the most "designated" persons are put in the place of real actors.... I'f you wanna be appropriate then let's eat the Cubs when the new king comes in and lets not let the fathers be around at all... there is racism with truth for you.... I was 10 yrs old when this original came out without the racist bitch known as "BEYONCE" was singing racist shit with her cheating black knight let alone being known... there is a reason the actors were who they were in the 90s orginal cartoon... are you ready???.. they had heart and class and soul instead of feeling owed something do to their religion or culture or skin color.... James Jones should be disgusted..... this whole production could've been great but these "actors" and directors threw it together like like stucco and wire but with shit and tree leaves... FUCK YOU DISNEY!!! TRYING to let my kids think that this is good film and acting!!!🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🏾🖕🏾🖕🏾🖕🏾🖕🏾🖕🏾🖕🏾🖕🏾🖕🏾🖕🏾🖕🏾🖕🏾🖕🏾🖕🏾🖕🏾oh and the word is FAT NOT CHUBBY you fuckin PC LIBERALS... chris, i will say in all fairness, that after seeing movieguy365's review of this movie i think that you can assume that this film is clearly a cash grab on the surface it has good cg animation But below its surface, many things are wrong with this film shots are missing, the cast is divided , parts of the soundtrack is clearly Not recognizable one of the biggest frustrations with this film, is donald glover and beyonce and to be honest, i really don't think they fit quite well in this film i tried out one of the songs beyonce had in the film by listening to the soundtrack and i clearly judged beyonce and glover based on their acting and i can tell, they are Not matt broderick and moira kelly type performances Now, if it were Zendeya and tom holland as simba and nala it would give this movie a solid A but since You have Two black actors, Who have No idea what they are doing this is going to be a skip

The funny thing is, there will obviously be people who complain if a remake is too much like the original, and there will be people who complain if it's too different. I, for one, like it when Disney dares to take a few liberties with their remakes. I actually don't even like the animated Jungle Book --- but I LOVE the remake because it cleared up a lot of the issues I had with the other version. I liked Maleficent because it told the story from an interesting new perspective. Christopher Robin told its own original story. And Beauty and the Beast, while it had a few things I took issue with, added a few surprises here and there and clearly had a lot of heart. But I'm not a fan of when they try to create a carbon copy of their original film and then remove parts of the magic that made it so great to begin with. I mean, I don't care that much in the grand scheme of things --- since if I don't like a remake, I'll just stick to the animated film. And there's no way Disney's going to stop doing it as long as they keep making the big bucks off these remakes.

Well, the thing is, if you ignore the fact that it’s a remake, then you can find lots to love about it. For example, Mufassa’s death (did i spell that right?). The camerawork, the music, and the dialogue, make it an intense, then sad scene and we can see why Simba is so traumatized, because he couldn’t see Scar. He thought it was his fault, leading him to run away, like Scar tells him to. It’s definitely a great moment in the movie, even the 2019 version. Another part is when Simba sings the song about how he cannot wait to be king. Simba and Nala are having fun, singing and playing with the other animals, and having Zazu be worried about them and losing them makes it even more funny. When they finally reach the elephant graveyard, it seems to build up to something sinister, that being the hyenas. An intense chase sequence happens, before Mufassa comes in and fights them off. What happens next is a heartfelt moment between Simba and his father. Mufassa makes it very clear that he is not happy with what Simba did, and that he was scared for the safety of his son, but at the end of the day, he still loves Simba, and they’ll still play around and this is great character building. I got all of that from the 2019 version. I haven’t watched the 1994 version yet, but I am planning to.
