Was very interested in the new defender until I heard it wouldn’t be offered with a diesel in the US. Bad decision as I see it. Big disappointment for me.

Yet another Tarts Hand bag from JLR, it will sell but not to the traditional defender buys because they have already moved away to pick ups from Ford, Toyota ect and Land Rover missed the boat on military vehicle for the modern battle space.

If only they had made the current Discovery a large version of this new Defender instead of the very feminine looking soft roader it is. How wonderful it would have been to have a genuine competitor to the Mercedes-Benz G Series, but looking even more aggressive, and with a tuned up SDV6 donk. It's hard to tell the new Disco from any of the other Land Rovers whereas all it took was just a glance at that beautiful square shape of the older ones to know what it was immediately.

Suspension is a big letdown. No more modifications to make it more offroad capable. The discovery II and defender are the last of the real off road land Rovers. Cant really do much to lift this or any other Land Rover. We want the ability to lift and modify this and are left disappointed.

I fear the politically correct have had a hand in its design, smart ready to monitor your every thought, IT on wheels not freedom and simplicity.

Thank you Landrover for manufacturing this turd .. My 1994 D90 D110 D1 are going to increase in Value. Aimed squarely at a market that would buy the Rover Sport . So you added complexity, cost , lack of robustness, lack of serviceability in the field, and what is with the plastic front and rear ? Ground clearance .. Just an inappropriate . Not a sensible move .. at all .. I guess the Diesels will all have DPF issues as usual.

Looks wise it's better looking than the original. Strength wise it's much stronger than the original. Tech wise it's bang up to date. Perhaps for people wanting a less techie Discovery then Land Rover could produce a stripped back version with none of the cameras and satnav etc - but then people would be taking their mobile phones and sticking them on the dash and buying little cameras and putting them on the windscreen - mmm perhaps the complainers are just typical British who don't like change - this Landrover has been very well thought out- I know which I prefer and it's not a car that you have to wear ear defenders in and worry about which expensive body panel is going to rot away next thank you!

Ugly ... for me in Iraq I would never buy this car with this price when I can get Nissan Patrol, Toyota Land Cruiser, Jeep Wrangler with similar prices

They are doing what the banks do- ignoring their loyal existing customers and trying to attract new ones, a marketing technique that increases business costs and loses loyal custom. For me, that isn't a Defender it's a Discovery with an alias. It will sell amongst the posers in London, Hertfordshire and Cheshire but it's not going to see many muddy tracks or farms. I guess if you didn't know about Landrovers you'd probably buy it for its spec but you wouldn't tell Greta it's diesel!

This is going to spend more time outside schools and hauling shopping around than off road. This is too stylish, modern, Range Rover like to be anything resembling the old defender. Toooo much tech for things that wasn’t asked for

I’ve zero interest in this overpriced, over hyped, over ECU driven, pile of shite. This looks like a defender inspired vanity project on wheels. Any farmer that buys this for off road use is gonna have a hard time chasing ECU faults once the dirt gets in. It looks so vain, flimsy & easily breakable that it would cost a small fortune to fix and doing by the road is almost impossible. It’s also so expensive, it makes me want to buy a Defender 90 300tdi and spend 10 grand doing it up. The whole motor looks like an impractical waste of time snd plastic. A bit Like a Barbie doll in wellington boots whose mother and father came from a decent family. JLR are obsessed with electronics. Massive no from me.

I thought hammond was intelligent but obviously not, yes this is a new vehicle but richard my son this is where you let yourself down, it's not a feckin defender, open your eyes man, it looks nothing like a defender. Get yourself down to specsavers.

What a piece of techno shit. How dare they not stick with the real traditional body shape. That new defender looks dreadful. Be fucked if I would take that off road . . I love my traditional Land Rover . It looks the business and is in the Australian bush. Bloody hell , get it right and stick with the old shape.

I've been at a loss since they changed the Discovery. I have a Discovery 4 which is great, but getting rather old now - I do not like the new Discovery at all. But this new Defender looks like it could fit the bill. I like the look of it.

I want to say that this is to close to the other cars they’ve got. Defender was a truck for heavy duty, this is something for guys and girls who really doesn’t like mud. If they wanted to design a contemporary car/truck why don’t take more influences from where the original was created for. War, farming life, adventure. If anything it should look more suited for that. Now it’s just... bunkers, ugly and lack all form of carisma... LR say they sold to little of the old one. With this new they might sell more Defenders, but at the cost of Rang Rover Sport and Land Rover Discovery... Don’t you think?

  44. Bob Dennis

    Bob DennisIl y a 15 jours

I loved my Land Rovers, a 2004 Discovery Se and a Freelander HSE same year, but the cost is ridicules and so far away from the original concept that it’s disappointing. If they want to sell vehicles they should make a moderate version. Just sayin’.

Just another plastic kerb climber; full of the usual electronic gumpf that will let you down in the bush and that you don't need in a Defender. Totally missed the point. Big thumbs down. I live in Africa and there are Defenders everywhere; what they offer in the new design is no replacement. Fail.
