Oculus Rift S, anyone? Linus forgot to mention it entirely!!!!!!! No need for extra cameras at all, for $ 400, it’s a good VR headset...

@Zenroy Other way around for me chap, had the Lenovo WMR and it was pretty dire IMO ....sold it and bought a Rift S....a lot more compatibility and it just works. Each to their own though.

@mrrip inc. Agreed! and for the money its a deal! but i did notice the 80hz over the 90hz in beat saber, and the worst part of rift-S is the HEADPHONES!!!!!!!! GARBAGE!!!!!!! that alone makes me want to take it back and get the index.

  4. David Bixler

    David BixlerIl y a 9 heures

@mrrip inc. once in a while I have tracking fallout, but a quick close and reopen of the Oculus app on Windows and it typically fixes itself. There is also a controller bug with the right controller showing up extra controllers that don't exist and once in a while pairing gets glitched. MAKE SURE you are using a USB 3 port for this, if you accidentally plug it in to a 2+ port, it'll have lots of issues and bugs until you move it. Powered hubs also are unreliable.

IF you don't have any VR headset but you have a powerful gaming computer, are there any VR games that justify the 1000 USD investment? So far, the only game that looks worth it IMHO is Lone Echo which is an Oculus title. Sure, you can use something to allow you to play Oculus titles on Steam VR headsets, but aren't there control mapping problems?

If you aren't impressed by the finger tracking in "supported" games, just wait until Boneworks from Stress Level Zero comes out on Steam. They have some amazing work being done over there. I'm hoping other game developers will follow suite.

If this headset was 400 dollars and the oculus rift like 200 dollars vr would be widely accepted and used by now. Vr is cool, all it needs to be is cheaper.

I *really* can't trust Linus' opinion on VR anymore. As a Rift S, Pimax 5K+, and an Index owner, I can say that I still prefer my Pimax to the other two, though it is heavily modded to make it better (because it is shit out of the box). For example, using the Vive Deluxe Audio Strap and of course using Index Controllers. Also the fact he is blown away by the clarity makes me feel he never gave the Pimax a shot because he wouldn't be blown away if he did.

Linus I have to totally agree with everything that you have said, but currently having the Oculus Rift, even though my system and display is now 4K and I fall into the category of someone who wants the index, it's still a lot of money to completely upgrade. The Rift S is attractive due to its ease of use and much lower price, but imo and yours the index is king. A small price drop (Half Life 3) would be a real clincher, for now i'll be holding on to my Rift for a bit longer I think. What about the Cosmos???????

During the past years, you should have upgraded your Vive with Deluxe Audio Strap, Wireless adapter and joystick addon for the Vive wands. Such a difference. Vive is (unfortumately) still one of the best VR-headsets out there thanks to the blacks, brightness, binocular overlap, Hz, games, tracking, and decent FOV. (duked's tech tips)

I don't believe GORN has proper full finger tracking support yet, it has preset combinations of buttons that represent a few hand expressions as you saw. Please find a proper game or maybe even a tech demo to show off the controllers.

I liked the Dell Mixed Reality, despite what "Reviewers" say, it was a LOT sturdier than it seems and over 2 years of punching walls full force over and over again it still hasn't broke xD (I also like how it has no limits on play space and you don't need to set it up like other VR sets, as well as liking the 300$ price tag on Newegg making it probably the cheapest 6 dimensional headset with controllers. The display is fantastic as well.)

Had the Index and loved it and its for sure the better HMD but the controllers are overrated and the "finger tracking" is analog and feels as such so might as well have physical buttons for each finger, prob would be more accurate to use. I sent my Index back because my PDI is like 2 points wider then their max plus its def not worth $1000, maybe $700 max and the lack of content for it, VR in general. 5 years maybe VR will be gold with better pc's and better displays and true VR content, ill try VR again.

Yeah yeah yeah, we get it, 1000 dollar valve index it's real cool and all... But where's the Oculus quest coverage? 400 dollars, no PC or phone or console needed, it's all in the headset already, no baystations or cameras needed, really good inside out tracking that's 1000x better than WMR tracking, there's some really nice rift ports on it, what about that?

  58. Feint

Someone was working on a GTA V VR mod, but stopped because it was too traumatic. He said he felt like a murderer playing it. You can already play a few regular games like space and racing games like Assetto Corsa, ACC, Project Cars 2, Elite Dangerous, Space Engine, and a bunch of others. The issue is a lot of those games aren't made for 3D and for using hand controllers and something that looks OK in 2D like models, textures and lighting will look flat and weird in 3D.

Maybe you can solve why some get it running fine while others don’t on similar setups. I’m on Rift S, 16gb, gtx1080ti, i5 6600k, all water cooled. Any help would be greatly appreciated! 😁👍

I've had the Gear VR for my Note 4 and Note 8, I currently have the PSVR, an Oculus Go, a Vive Focus, a Samsung Odyssey, the original Vive and just upgraded to the Vive Pro. Comparing the newest system out there to the first gen Vive leaves a ton of systems between the two out of the picture. I get excited when I see a new VR come out, I got the Samsung because of the upgrade in resolution to the original Vive. I'm honestly wondering if this is a big enough upgrade to ditch the Vive Pro for.
