Is wella generally considered a good brand? I have used both box and professional color in the past and for some reason wella never came out very good for me although other brands of pro dye do work well for me. I didn’t have a reaction or anything, it just didn’t seem to pop or look all that vibrant. I was using the liquid wella and you used the cream one ... maybe their cream is better than their liquid color? I dunno

Honey no. I love you brad but that is all a lie. You switched haids please do you really think people didnt see it? Do you really think theres no actual hairdressers in your subs? I can see it sooo clearly that the boxdye had alpt more from start to end the other didnt have even the slightest bit of red! I hate the way you try to lie when its so fucking obvious. People are not dumb we see the stains you made there on the boxdye head they didnt go off. Its not like im angry cause im a twat , just think about it now some people CAN NOT afford shit and now these 15-16 yearolds wjo wants to show some individuality and be themselves feel fucking ugly , they probably have up on their colored hair cause oh well they admire your ass. Cause you lied and said that the boxdye is bassicaly crap. This was in no way fair and in no way nice. I loved alot of your videos before brad im a subscriber but this? No. You need to get your head out of the clouds not everybody has the luxury you do to "have grwon up in a salon" as you said you did.

Listen my virgin hair is dark dark dark brown, almost black and for YEARS I used Garnier Ultra color, varying from the reds to the burgundies. With each application my hair slowly but surely transformed into the luscious, even color as advertised on the box. My hair was soft and healthy and I got compliments on it all the time. Then I stupidly went and had it balayaged, which looked alright but felt like garbage. If you have dark virgin hair, I only recommend Garnier Ultra Color.

I used a box dye in june, it lasted until September, covered all grey, beautiful shine, colour and luster and it cost less than $10 and I did it in 45 minutes in comfort of my home. I did a professional box dye in October, it didn't cover grey, no luster, and it washed out in 1 week. And it cost me over $30. Box dyes FTW

True story: at my higher-end salon, my hairstylist's colleague said to her, "OMG, her hair color looks amazing! Great job!!!" At which point my hairstylist had to say, "I just cut it, she colored it herself at home."" Thanks, Loreal. Or Garnier...can't remember which one....but it was the best color of my life and cost less than $10. My salon dye job...um, hundreds, and never the same compliments.

Hairdressers often just dont give a single shit about what the customer wants and I dont remember ONE professional hairdresser who dis what I asked them to and disnt completely fuck up my hair. It's crazy expensive as well and I have to throw away more money after the appointment to fix it. But since I started dying and cutting my own hair, everything's fixed! I get compliments quite often on my hair, it's pretty long down to my waist which is something since In tall as heck, and I slay all of my crazy box dye colors.

I’ve had lots of money and I have been broke. So I get it on both sides. But imho, if you can afford box dye, you can spend the extra 15-20 at sallys to get amonia free professional dye and do it yourself at home. Still saving money and keeping hair from unwanted damage.

The comparison isn't really fair. The price: The box dye is only 13$. The professonal box dye (pun intended) is 19$... Plus a bowl and brush to apply, and a scale if you haven't any. Furthermore you expect some one else to do it in a salon, which you state even at the end "go get your hair done". So the question of how much are the purchasing cost for the salon are out the window. How much do you charge in your salon? Usibility: I do not know where a hair salon shop is, I have to look it up and probably travel a pretty distance, then I have to choose, but I have know idea what I'm looking for. I have to mix it with something, but I do not know with what. Then I have to apply it, with a brush, which looks like a pain to do it yourself. Maybe the box dye drips more, but most people do it (half) naked in their bathrooms and not in a fancy studio.

In high school I went out on a limb and got dollar store hair dye for fun. I got medium brown (expecting it to end up dark brown), trying to get my hair color back to its natural color after two years of bleaching with a couple months break. It wasn't intense bleaching; it was the whole baking soda hydrogen peroxide and conditioner thing once a week for not very long, so my hair was pretty healthy. This box dye really surprised me. It worked much better than I thought a dollar store box dye would and fulfilled my expectations of making a darker brown color. Not super shiny, but shinier than I thought. Did wash out after a few months though. Very fun to try.

  41. Kaylea Ann

i honestly don't think he switched the heads because box dye can be washed off plastic very easily but will bleed and stain normal skin and from my experience professional colour doesn't stain my skin as much but can bleed onto plastic when being washed off of a mannequin head. Remember he's using mannequin heads made of plastic and not actual people. However, i'm speaking on my personal experience tho so don't @ me because i could be wrong. I have used both box dye and professional colour on my head and box dye is not as bad as Brad is saying it is but i think the only reason he's saying that is because it reacts weirdly to previously coloured hair. Professional colour has always given me better results though and that's why i personally use it instead of a cheap box dye.

So I've watched this a million times now and I really don't think he switched the heads. At 12:20 you can see the stain in the corner of the forehead on the box colour, as well a stain on the back of the neck of the professional colour. At 8:44 you can see that there is hair colour in that same spot on the professional head (not stained yet, but colour is still processing). At 13:08 you can see the stain while he's drying the professional head. At 13:46 you can see the stain on the box dye head. At 15:39 and 17:44 you can also see that they both have some staining on the back of the neck, with the box dye head's stain looking fairly consistent with the stain seen at 11:40 and 12:00. (Particularly how far it wraps around the neck, and the concentrated dot) The box dye does look more vibrant while it's on. You'll notice that it starts out reddish, while the professional colour starts our white/cream and then develops into a dark purple colour. To an untrained eye, that looks sketchy based on the results. The red colour of the box dye is pretty much just for show. That is not the colour it is depositing into the hair. Permanent hair colour is pretty much always some sort of cream colour - the change happens INSIDE the hair, not outside. It also often looks a lot darker than it actually is once it's processed, but before rinsing. You can see this clearly on the professional head, but the process is hidden by the red colour of the box dyes head.

I honestly have used boxed dye for years from when I first started coloring my hair we had no Sally's or beauty store to have easy cheap access. it never did me wrong. I only started going to get professional stuff when I bleached my whole head for the first time a few years ago. it is a little cheaper tbh and there's a lot of shades to choose from. so I'm honestly in between. I use boxed dye when it's an emergency when I have time and plan out when I'm doing my hair I go to the beauty supply store.

Through Brad's makeover videos we learn he does one basic haircut, roughly shoulder length with little to no layering. Or he does a basic trim. He looks awkward even doing that. He in no way looks like a professional in command of his shears when cutting hair. He has talked about how much he hates perms, never wants to do one again. Okay. So, maybe colorist is his thing...and then we have this video. Where his application is a mess, even when he's not being dense on purpose with the box dye. Then, because we are all supposed to be foolish and stupid, he switched the heads. Um. What? The sad thing is, Brad is ridiculously charismatic and fun to watch, but who has time for liars? I'm out.

I've used this specific kind of Feria color (not this shade, but a similar one) a lot, and I will say, using the included conditioner after dyeing makes a HUGE difference in shine/luster in my experience with it. Sounds kooky, but using that conditioner leave-in directly after dyeing just once makes a massive change. I also typically leave box dye in for at least 10 minutes more than the suggested processing time unless it's a lot of lightening.

I'm not super biased. However, I do like professional dye better because it's more customizable with the developer and typically I have to buy less of it. It's goes further than box dye. Also depending on what kind you buy it doesn't have to be that expensive. It's just up to the person's preference though.
