Believe me when I tell you Canada is a communist third world country. Why do you think our population is 10 times less than the US. Why do you think most of the companies in canada are American. There is no such a thing as advancement in this country. Nobody has any say about anything. Suggestions and oppositions are looked down upon. Canadians make fun of their fellow citizens with ideas. Respect, care and passion is no where to be found. The health care system might as well be non existent. "But it's free!" woop dee doo! You cant find any care and passion in the healthcare system yet alone anywhere else. And if you think otherwise well you have been lied to and brainwashed my friend. Canadians dont know that because they dont travel. People are scared to travel. People are scared to speak up. People are scared to stand against being treated like second class citizens. People are scared to be FREE! And as soon as you act free others will attack you for it because NOBODY in this country should be free. They have been filled with fear and they're content this way. That's the communist way of Canada treating their citizens

Trudeau is such a FAKE. This isn't the first time he's been investigated. He was involved in some insider trading scandal too. Where two people he knew personally just happened know which of their stocks to move right before important news was released about it. He ass-kissed hard during his campaigns and made promises to all those groups aboriginal, feminist, lgbt, etc etc just to get them to vote him in. I can't believe anyone is surprised that he used them for votes. lol Most have seen though his lies now. And Government transparency? I don't think so. If anything he has pushed through more decisions and laws behind closed doors, and made it harder to investigate the government. He's also spent money foolishly and racked up debt. Like his giant inflatable duck... 😑

Oh Phil, you have no idea, this SNC-Lavalin thing is only the latest, in a conga-line coming out of a party bus, that is the Liberal Party's supposedly honest and fair political dealings. This isn't Trudeau's first time being investigated by the ethics commissioner, he so far has two guilty findings against him, he is in fact the first Canadian Prime Minister ever to be found guilty of an ethics offense by the ethics commissioner. The problems don't stop there. The reason that Jane Philpot was President of the Treasury Board to begin with, is because the previous Treasury President Scott Brison, had resigned from the position a few months ago claiming that he wanted to spend more time with his family and constituents and that he wouldn't be running for reelection. In reality Scott Brison resigned because walls were beginning to close in, regarding the Mark Norman Affair. Vice Admiral Mark Norman is currently being charged with Breach of Trust (code here for leaking documents) by the RCMP (not military authorities), the first ever Canadian flag officer to be so. Norman had since the Trudeau government came in to office, been an opponent of a plan to delay and reassign an already underway ship building contract. After the leaking of documents pertaining to the matter were leaked, the RCMP investigated 45 different individuals, many of whom, from publicly available evidence, seem like far more credible candidates than Admiral Norman, and many, including his defense team believe that his subsequent arrest and prosecution were politically motivated. What does this have to do with Brison? Brison was one of the leading proponents of reassigning the contract from the current holder Davie Shipbuilding, to Irving Shipbuilding's Halifax Shipyard. Brison is an MP for Halifax Nova Scotia, and is known to have ties to the Irving family, as well, after the election, Brison received a letter from Irving Shipbuilding lobbying him to under take such as decision, a letter which he failed to initially disclose to investigators. As well, there is the issue of Admiral Norman being investigated and charged by the RCMP and not by military police, something which could have been directed by Defense Minister Harjit Singh either at Brison or Trudeau's insistence. There are plenty of other things i could go into, many of which are far more in an incompetent or malicious nature but not of criminal or corrupt nature as the previous matters discussed. Although for the purpose of disclosure I am a Conservative Party supporter, I can fully understand why many people voted for Justin Trudeau and the Liberal party in 2015, but many people I know who did vote for them back in 2015 and disgusted and furious, both with themselves and with the Liberals and Trudeau, and seriously regretted their vote, and feel like they were flat out lied to, with the bold and lofty promises of greatest transparency and accountability.

Canadian here - Phil (and team), Trudeau isn't some huge champion of women's rights in Canada. Seriously. The cabinet had almost half female ministers before he was elected, making his claim he would make his cabinet "at least half women" hollow as hell to ANYONE who knows ANYTHING about our government. Literally meant adding THREE WOMEN to make his promise happen. But people ate that shit up during the pre election in 2015. Its a joke. Everything is like this here. It *sounds* good to those who follow his personality of cult (and it really is, riding on the coat tails of his dad) but theyre not informed or try to be. Hear him speak for maybe 15 minutes and he stutters and blunders more than Bush junior EVER did.

I find it weird how many people are going after Trudeau having no evidence of actual wrong doing, as well as how close this scandal is to the run up to elections. His opposition clearly said Trudeau should resign for what he's done, although nothing has been proven yet, so why say something like that? All a show. I'm not saying Trudeau is innocent, I'm saying we the public just don't know yet. It would be rash of us to take anyone's side in this, until we know more concrete details, until something is actually proven. God, what a reactive and bloodthirsty public our Internet generation has become.

OKAY HI CANADIAN HERE: I just have to add that as per law, as Butts stated in his testimony (and I've watched both) the government was definitely looking to "settle" which if this only involved a tiny sum of people then that would be an issue. But I completely agree that in this scenario taking down an entire corporation is just not the answer. Don't get me wrong fraud on this scale is ASTRONOMICAL but when doing a DNC ("settling"-I think thats the acronym I didnt double check sorry) there would be massive parameters to meet - like firing certain people, payback on taxes, regulations around who they can work with, etc... I'll admit that the justice system is far from perfect and of course SNC would absolutely try (and maybe succeed in certain areas) to escape major backlash. But prosecution of a massive scale that would more than likely end jobs for 9000+people is ridiculous. (Of course this is my opinion) I also want to say that I went into this news thinking the prev at. General was in the right. Nobody's suprised that government's "cover up" fraud and participate in coercion-thats in the news everywhere right now. But of course, we have an election coming up and Spense (the conserv. Leader) is looking directly at the people who want to put our $ and resources into the hands of our conservative party. But instead of focusing on applications for those $ and resources that side of the government is weighing HEAVY on conspiracy. But as Phil mentioned this issue with this particular company has been and issue FOR YEARS. Its not new! But of course because a women who stands up as female and indigenous tells a story of how the men in government told her to critically look at the case at hand and use a legal form of prosecution other than criminal prosecution she makes massive stats on the news. Coming from a woman who identifies as female and indigenous and a badass feminist I'm not a fan of the previous at. General. Had she decided prosecution was the best option after consistent and constant analysis of the additional evidence that came up all the time THEN FINE prosecute criminally. But the argument of "my decision is final" is only acceptable when your mom tells you no or your kids are being whiny. Please don't come for me in the comments either ... i mean I welcome dissagreeing arguments but dont be jerks. This isnt a cut -and - dry case but I also dont think its as dramatic as the news is portraying it to be....

Now this is the fifth time he’s been caught in trouble with the law but nobody can do anything. The scam he’s in is revolves around a company in Quebec SNC-LAVALIN and many of his family friends and people he works with have stakes in the company, and the lady with the evidence is being silenced.their making Canada look like criminals and making the rest of the world lose respect for us , the list is even longer, he has nationality against each other, provinces against each other, our country has never been so divided, hopefully he gets voted out before we hit the bottom.

As a Canadian I think it is great that you are covering this topic, as many of us here in the North are angry about this scandal. Canada has a huge problem with GOVERNMENT TRANSPARENCY. Unfortunately, in politics we have a minority of French Elite in Canada's political landscape (meaning top leaders, Judges, and government officials are held by naturally speaking French Canadians and usually Quebecois). This would NOT be a problem normally, but unfortunately in Canada it leads to more French-speaking INTERESTS. A majority of Canada is English-speaking with lots of OTHER LANGUAGES BESIDES FRENCH being spoken by Canadian citizens. Most English-speakers want equality for ALL NON-ENGLISH SPEAKERS, but a lot of French Politicians want non-english resources to go to FRENCH-SPEAKERS EXCLUSIVELY. This creates a lot of tensions in Canada. Myself, I come from an English AND French Canadian pioneering family on my Dad's side (aka the University of Alberta has a family cookbook on file because our family owned acres of land just outside of Edmonton for generations). On my Mom's side she is a legal Canadian citizen who immigrated from South America. So I tend to understand the struggles of both families who have been here for generations and newer families who have just immigrated here. This is a BIG DEAL deal for us in the North because Trudeau has been shown to a lot of English-speakers to be the French-elitist-self-interested-asshole WE FEARED HIM TO BE. Sincerely, A Canadian who is tired of political bullshit

I've not been a fan of many of the things the Trudeau government has done (with the exception of marijuana legalization), up to and including this scandal... but I do think it's a little rich when Andrew Scheer talks about it (though I do get that as Leader of the Opposition it's his job). He was dead silent about SNC-Lavalin's wrongdoings when the Conservatives were in power and the company's shady dealings were uncovered, and I think it's really disingenuous of him to pretend that a business-friendly Conservative government wouldn't have done exactly the same thing with a company of that size and with that many jobs at stake, had they won the last election (in which case the Attorney General would have been a member of the Conservative Party). The main thing that pisses me off is that people have been calling for an independent Attorney General for a long time, and we don't have one. One could argue it's the government's job to remind the Attorney General about the jobs at stake, and it's the AG's job to resist any such suggestions, which means it's stupid as fuck that the AG is a party member. That shit needs to be changed but I doubt either major party is gonna take that on. Ugh, the election this year is gonna suck. I have no interest in re-electing Trudeau's Liberals, but neither do I think Andrew Scheer should be Prime Minister. Not super keen on the NDP at the moment either. Fuuuuuuuuuucknuts.

As hard and as often as possible. 3.) Having one's portfolio switched to Minister of Veteran's Affairs should NEVER be considered a demotion. Even if its not as glamourous (what with having to deal with the issues of Canadian war veterans, and all of the issues facing THEM) as her former post. 4.) Also, fuck that Slimeball Sheer. I am 100% proud to be Canadian, but this SNC Lavalin scandal has been all over the new stations for months now. I have a few things to say: 1. I would like to thank you, Mr Phil, for finally breaking this down and yelling me why SNC Lavalin was facing a trial in the first place. News sources near where I am I Ontario (a provincial Progressive Conservative province, but that's it's own set of issues) have been solely focused on the fact that Trudeau f*cked up. The Liberals screwed up. 2. Because this has dominated the airwaves for so long, I sit back and wonder what other stories the media could be covering, instead of feeding us the same tired bull crap over and over. And 3. Would somebody please hire a stylist for Trudeau or at least someone to make sure his damn tie is straight??

I'd love to see a video showing how you choose which topics to cover for an episode! I just imagine Phil walking in with a large coffee of some sort and polling his staff, TMZ style.

I can't wait for Justin Trudeau to get voted out. He was one of the worst PMs Canada has ever had. He lied about everything he stood for, major middle fingers to Trudeau. He's a joke.

Great coverage of the SNC Lavalin scandal. It sucks that this will inevitably affect Trudeau in the upcoming federal election, as the conservative party treats women much more poorly than him, but since they don't champion those rights they aren't rocked by scandal.

There is too much corruption going on in the liberal caucus. No transparency. Trudeau is a former part time drama teacher. Behaves like a dictator. Enough is enough

Just seeing comments in this section make me want to throw up. Maybe I'm fool for thinking so, but this is exactly why I have a certain apathy for politics. Everyone wants to freakout and call out the other side instead of looking at facts. I for one, think that Canada is an awesome country. Certainly not perfect, of course, but I find it funny when Americans call out Canadian politics with a president like Trump. He has so many scandals, at least one must be true. He is a businessman after all.

I don’t think Trudeau would have to be at Trump’s level to warrant criticism and oversight but I just don’t get what the “massive” part of this scandal is. Even assuming the worst without taking any arguments from Trudeau’s side it doesn’t sound like he did much other than stress the importance of 9000 people’s jobs by repeatedly asking his AG to seek help with making the decision. Even if that were the case, and JWR painted a clear and precise picture of their communications, is that really a massive scandal? Or a scandal at all?

Phil, as a Canadian that works 9 to 7, I didnt know the details of the Justin Trudeau scandal, aside from watching your summary. I think many of us may be in the same boat.

You still don’t, unfortunately. This was almost entirely one sided arguments without bringing any of the context/contradictions brought forward by Trudeau and co. It’s hard to keep up, but the information is out there. Start with Gerald Butts’ testimony. It’s not nearly as cut and dry as it was presented in this piece. That said I don’t think Phil or his team did this on purpose. Just seems to be the way the media is covering it for the most part. It’s almost as if they know that anything aside from Trudeau hate would prompt the conservatives to cry bias and fake news and just follow suit instead.

SNC Lavalin is run by the mafia in montreal. It's been exposed before and they've been fined, raided, and had officials arrested and charged many times. They've even admitted to fraud but got off with a slap on the wrist. People are concerned that Trudeau is in with the mafia because it's happened before with other politicians.
