    What does any of this have to do with deadlifts "killing" gains? What he basically said is that deadlifts have a great risk of injury. A title like "Are deadlifts worth doing?" would have been appropriate. Jeff's content is really great - I don't know why he still stoops to this level of click bait.

    I could - at 54 - gain nothing. Now whether it was cause and effect or not, I went from 77kg back up to 84.5kg when I started deadlifting.

    I respect your decision about the deadlift and I am sure you have a lot more experience and research behind it than I do. Having said that, I think the deadlift is one of the most awkward and uncomfortable positions one could ever encounter in a workout routine. it goes completely against natural body movements (for me at least)

    And that's why we dont deadlift at school weightlifting, or max out on back squats. Coach is worried about us fucking ourselves. I was gonna max out on deadlifts during my class and a dumb ass ego lifter almost fucked his whole career trying to deadlift what I was lifting, then I got in trouble.

    I've been doing deadlifts for two years. It took me a few tries to get the form down pat, but once I did I've massively improved my posture since.

    If you have to scientifically analyze someone's deadlift to ensure it is done right to avoid injury, then perhaps Mr. Oberst has a point that is valid not just for pro athletes but for the rest of us as well. Maybe past a point, it just aint' worth it.

    I thought the football and track guys were using the hex bar and low blocking sled anyway which are more specific. Jeff's perspective is using less testosterone than a rhinoceros in mating season, otherwise it's hard to fit the helmet with that horn on your nose. It's only a 4 game suspension anyway, unless you play for the Patriots or Red Sox, in which case it's just a warning.

    Deadlifts are not just killing your gains, they are killing your fucking brain cells. Look at The Mountain (giant Nordic body builder, one of the strongest in the world), he had a major stroke and now half his face is dead. Don't do deadlifts and try to look like The Hulk, stick to a total gym if you want 100% functionality of your face.

    I have switched to doing modified deadlifts using the trap bar. I don't know if that's a good thing or not but my lower back doesn't seem to be as sore the day after

    As an intermediate lifter, I too avoid the direct deadlift due to the risks involved. Instead, I use the hex bar, as it shortens the route and is much easier on the lower back.

    I LOOOOOVE deadlifts! It's a staple in my workouts. Do them 3 times a week. Long as your not ego lifting and using good form your good.

    Can take longer to recover from deadlifting. So it would be hard to deadlift and recover within a week to go and play a particular sport.
