    I agree with what Robert Oberst stated. I push myself when training but there is a limit to what kind of risk I will take. Deadlift is a great exercise that works multiple muscle groups. However, too many guys want to lift the gym and don't understand the neurological stress that deadlifts cause on the body. If you are not mindful of that, your body will break down. Go find a healthy professional bodybuilder who isn't suffering from the effects of lifting heavy every day and stressing the body. The popular bodybuilders get paid well but most of them did it for little or no compensation. The point is: PRs are great but if no one is giving you a bag to lift that much and you're doing it for gym glory, you should at least think about later in life. More reps of a moderate weight can still make you stronger. The best competitive deadlifters don't lift heavy until a competition comes.

    as a LMT, CST I can tell you if you compress your spine deadlifting you will have problems... deadlifting requires a lot of stretching afterwards to reduce compression... but you will compress your spine liking running on hard surfaces.. it not just about risk.. if you compress your spine your muscles will tighten up around your spine until your so tight and sore you can hardly move.. he doesn't mention specifically what are stability muscles are like Iliopsoas.. you don't need to deadlift to strengthen core muscles that's absurd..

    That's why I will always love the old school bodybuilders, the old school diets (where they basically ate normal), and the old school way of lifting. This new age of exercising/lifting has been become so over analyzed. Like the great Dave Drapper has said, lifting is easy, keep it that way. You don't have deadlilft a 1000lbs.

    Jeff addresses this, basically, but IMO the biggest problem with deadlifts is that, even more than lifts like bench, or even squats, you are more likely to hit your best deadlift numbers with poor form. This is because your lower back muscles, traps, grip, and quads will tend to be strong enough to move a weight that will curve your spine. At a high level, that doesn't seem to happen as much with PRs in the other major lifts as it does with deadlifts. That's not to say that walking out a heavy squat isn't just as dangerous, but, though the squat can still injure you if you have perfect form, you're less likely to hit your best squat with "bad" form, compared to the deadlift. With a squat or bench if your form breaks down, you tend to just miss the lift--there isn't as much room to grind it out with broken form. If more gyms had proper glute-ham and back extension apparatus, rather than just the 45 degree ones, there would be more readily available, effective, but alternatives to the deadlift for effectively developing spinal erectors. Unfortunately, that's isn't the case.

    Please physical therapy for Achilles tendinitis please, I need this badly for my wife. She is in incredible pain! It is due to the calf muscle being to tight. Is there anything I can do to massage her? Could a TENS unit be helpful? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Please help
