Dude really, you can’t compare weight of a factory/team DH bike to an off the shelf model.. Your factory DH bike cost well into or past 10 thousands not $3k like your title states. 🤔🙄 Unfortunately, you media types push the manufacturers into raising the bar on what is entry level.. I started mtb riding in 1990 and I’ve seen brands like specialized basically put the brand out of reach of average buyers. It’s also easy for media types to have these bikes given to them not purchasing them like normal riders do..

Just did a demo ride of the Mayhem and Ryve in Phoenix, AZ. I appreciate the guys at Spot for coming down to Phoenix and would like to thank the team for setting up the demo event. I wouldn't have been able to ride their bikes otherwise. I test rode two bikes (Ryve and Mayhem) and I liked them both. The Ryve was a bit better at climbing than the Mayhem but it is also lighter and shorter travel. The Ryve is their XC bike. They both felt really good while climbing and I didn't notice any pedal bob. Also never slipped the rear wheel when pedaling hard on the uphills. On the downhills, the Mahyem felt a bit more capable with the longer travel and the extra two or three pounds in the bike. The rear felt great over the rocks and I never noticed any issues with either bike. What I liked most about the bikes, besides the climbing, was that the steering felt neutral at any speed. It was just was easy to change lines while tooling around or going all out. I found that some bikes are more stable when up to speed but a bit squirrelly when going slow. The steering on the Mayhem and Ryve felt exactly the same no matter what speed I was doing. It felt the most neutral of the bikes I have tried. It kind of surprised me the first ride or two and I overcompensated a turn or two until I got use to the feel. But based on the way the bikes were setup, my riding style and the type of trails I plan to ride, the Mayhem is now in my top 3 bikes to consider buying in the next few months. I still have a few more bikes to demo before I decide, though. My current top three are the Ibis Ripley, Spot Mayhem and the Evil Following MB. The frames, I believe, have a 5 year warranty so I'm not too worried about the frame cracking. I also think that they modified the rear linkage on the Mayhem to better prevent it from ever hitting the frame so that may no longer be an issue. But I would still double check the clearance and make sure I have the revised linkage if I bought an older bike.

You say the bike felt faster. Was it? On a 5k ride, which is fastest? Just wondering if it just felt faster because you were working harder.

I think the trust fork made your trail bike geometry into a enduro bike geometry. Or somewhat downhill geometry. It might be why it handle downhill better. You should test the trust fork vs an enduro bike instead of putting the fox 34 fork on a trail bike.

I want to see this but then you take the fork out on each one and inspect the headtube for cracks. And maybe someway to use the slow motion and motion tracking or something to measure the frame flex. Maybe get some good data on which frames are tougher or which flex more or, etc. I'm sure there is some relationship between having some flex so things don't crack or having something so beefy that it doesn't need to flex and can be super stiff. Would LOVE to see this info. I had to warranty my 2019 stumpy for a cracked headset at the bearing seat and its totally possible that it's because the seat just wasn't molded or cut even and a defect caused it but I would love to see the durability of newer bikes after huge hucks to flat like that. There HAS to be a crack somewhere in the frame on one of those bikes that you just didn't notice after that. Other than the Pole which was noticeable. I guess the nice thing about the pole tho is since it's just aluminium it can be welded.

Why put two different bikes against each other that are two different wheel sizes and then just say you’d choose the more mainstream wheel size? Compare the Marin Nail Trail’s that’s a 29 or something else instead of you just want to tell people you like one brand/bike because of the wheel size..

Shorter wheelbase. The rear wheel is hanging out to far for backflips etc. also i would proably reinforce slack off the HT angle by a degree or 1.5 at 58.5 you're still the raddest geo out there but you're also at a much lower risk of killing yourself by snapping the frame.
